Scott Burns suggest You move to Austin to restore your retirement next egg

Well, he suggested Austin amongst other cities.  As a California transplant, I suggest you skip Florida, San Antonio, Arizona, Vegas ( water crisis) and come directly to Austin. 

This Sunday , Financial columnist Scott Burns suggest that Baby Boomers suffering from stock market losses and deflation of home values shore up their retirement by moving from high priced distressed areas to areas where the median family home prices are significantly lower.  

Suppose you sell your Boston home for $336,000 and move to Austin where the median home price is $185,000 .  This move will liberate $151,000 of equity.    So the question is what does $185,000 buy in Austin. 

When Scott Burns refers to Austin – he is actually referring to the Austin Metro Service Area which includes Round Rock, Leander, Pflugerville, Buda and surrounding communities.    $185,000 will buy you significantly more outside the Austin city limits.
