River Place is a relatively new community, founded due to its access to Lake Travis and the lake culture of the surrounding area as well as the culture of the private country club which it surrounds. The River Place HOA website (riverplacehoa.org) describes it as “both a waterfront and a country club community along the shores of Lake Austin.”

River Place Country Club is one of Austin’s top-rated private clubs, providing for golf, tennis, swimming, fitness, and social activities for its members.

What kind of houses and lots are in River Place?

The houses in River Place are larger than typical Austin houses. Very few homes there are smaller than 3,000 square feet, though many area as large as 4,000, 5,000 and (rarely) 6,000 square feet.

The first homes in the River Place development were built in the early 1990s, but development has continued to the present day, and new construction is plentiful.

Large lots abound in River Place. Most are between .16 acres to a quarter of an acre; some are much larger, as big as half an acre.

The River Place development is about twenty minutes from downtown Austin, and all of the entertainment, dining, and shopping that it affords. But most residents of River Place don't choose to live there because of its proximity to downtown, but rather its proximity to Lake Austin and the unique culture that has been built around it. Opportunities to enjoy the outdoors are plentiful for River Place homeowners—not only at the lake, but also at the River Place Country Club, with its many options for entertainment and exercise.
