Tanglewood Forest was first developed in the early 1980s, with construction continuing into the early 1990s and even later. Recent years have seen more multi-family development in the neighborhood.
Typical homes in Tanglewood Forest have three bedrooms and two baths and are built on slab foundations. Two car garages are fairly standard. Homes in the area are constructed largely of masonry—primarily brick and native stone.
Like any established neighborhood, condition of real estate in Tanglewood Forest runs the gamut, but in general the area feels clean and well-kept.

Downtown Austin with all of its jobs, entertainment, restaurants, and world famous music and nightlife are a short drive up either Interstate 35 to the east or Mopac Expressway to the west.
But one needn’t go that far to enjoy life in South Austin, which has made a name for itself as the city within the city of Austin. South Austin has its own favorite spots. Randalls and HEB Grocery stores, clothing shops, banks, It’s About Thyme Nursery, movie theaters, bowling alleys, music venues, Seattle’s Best Coffee , Maudie’s Tex Mex Café, Brick Oven Restaurant and Shogun Japanese Restaurant ( Best Succi in the area) are all nearby. The same is true of parks, greenbelt access points, community swimming pools, and other opportunities to enjoy the rich outdoor life for which Austin is known.
What about the schools in Tanglewood Forest?
Students living in Tanglewood Forest can attend nearby Austin Independent School District schools: Kocurek Elementary School, Cowan Elementary, Bailey Middle School, and Akins High School.
In 2007 Texas Education Agency accountability ratings, all of these schools performed to TEA standards. Cowan Elementary and Bailey Middle School both exceeded standards, earning Recognized status from the TEA. The other schools listed above all received Academically Acceptable status.
